Pale-Billed Woodpecker: A Strikingly Endangered Bird Of North America
The black and white plumage of the pale-billed woodpecker (Campephilus principalis) makes it a striking bird. This medium-sized woodpecker is the only member of the Campephilus genus found in North America. It is an endangered species with a limited range, primarily inhabiting mature hardwood forests in the southeastern United States and Cuba.
