The Mexican bearded lizard (Heloderma horridum charlesbogerti), commonly known as the Gila monster, is a venomous species found in Mexico. It is classified within the family Helodermatidae and is a relatively large lizard, reaching lengths of up to 60 cm. The lizard’s distinctive features include its spine-covered body, large head, and dark blotches with lighter edges. Inhabits dry, rocky environments, preying on small mammals, birds, and eggs. Its solitary and diurnal nature, coupled with its defensive behavior (flattening and inflating its beard) and venom, make it a formidable predator.
