Yellow-Bellied Sliders: Semi-Aquatic Turtles With Yellow Markings
Yellow-bellied sliders are semi-aquatic turtles found in North America. They are characterized by distinct yellow markings on their underside and have a smooth, olive-green carapace. As omnivores, they feed on both plant and animal matter. Sliders prefer slow-moving water bodies with ample vegetation for cover and bask in the sun to regulate their body temperature. They are active during the day and exhibit social behaviors, forming basking groups. The species has a wide distribution, but habitat loss, fragmentation, and illegal pet trade pose threats to its conservation.
